I might go to a percentage pull this weekend. I have always pulled weight classes and Div's... Somebody fill me in on the deal... I know it something with the distance subtract the HP or something like that???? Also, how do U set the tractor?? Add enough weight so it almost runs out of power?? (I don't care to haul any extra weight.) pull in a higher gear??? Let me hear some opinions... Thanks

JDGnut..used to go to southeast kansas years ago and pull %..say the pan weighed 1000 lb with the box back..weight box moves up 200 inches..each inch would add 50 lb..150 inches plus the pan equals 8500 lb..4000 lb tractor divided into the 8500 equals 212.5%..just hook up and pull as far as you can..sometimes better to be at the light end and sometimes heavy end..have pulled at 4490 in 3501-4500..then weighted up to 4505 in the 4501-5500..two shots at the same weight..lynn

The way our club figured percentage was to take the weight on the sled pan divided by the weight of the tractor to get the percentage pulled. My thougt is to weight in the bottom 1/3 of the class or weight at the top of one class and throw on enough weights to get into the next class.

The clubs I pull with are all %. We figure it the same, tractor weight/pan weight. How you weight the tractor seems to depend on the class you pull in our clubs. In the lighter classes <4500 the lighter you are if you can balance it the better of you are. When you get the the middle ground 5500 class it'sa toss up. 6500 and up heavier seems to be a little better. I think it has to do with the condition of track improving until about mid way then starting a downhill slide as far as bite goes. And since we always pull heaviest tractor to lightest in each class that is the way it shakes up.

Since you don't want to lug around extra weight I suggest you determine the bare weight with you on it and take just enough to hold the nose down.

my $0.02

Then try and figure the track condition or your weight to be if your Club schedule alternates every pull by starting light weight and going to heavyweight , then next week you start with heavyweight and come down to the lightweights.

They have done that to us on a few occasions. Really pisses off the lightweight guys that are used to being done quickly and going home that now have to wait until the end.
