FYI

Farmall M ring & pinion teeth 19 and 50 for a 2.63/1 ratio.

W6 ring & pinion teeth 19 and 47 for a 2.47/1 ratio.

The W6 will give you a 6.4% speed increase in each gear.

Guy Fays Farmall Book claims the rear was the same on the W-6 and the M. I wonder what the difference in tire height was between the two tractors? Charles

Yes - I counted the teeth on the gears myself. I cannot find rolling circumference for 15.5x38 or 13.6x38. Anyone know of a chart showing this?

This is pretty interesting. I created a spreadsheet that calculates MPH in each gear for a given tire size, engine rpm, ring&pinion, etc. With 16.9 x 38 tires a Super M in 3rd gear is 6.58 mph which is 14% faster than an M in 3rd gear 5.78 mph.

Got speeds for a 560 on your chart? 34 and 38 info would be great?

Thats why 1st gear isn't the answer, you have got to go to a speed limit, any gear.

going from a 15.5 to a 16.9 x 38 will give a 8% increase
