Measure the dome on the piston, subtract that measurement from the depth of the combustion chamber. Measure your total lift on the valves and subtract that measurement from the first figure you came up with. That's the figure you will be able to play with as far as cutting the head. Remember, If your going to want to get really close, add the thickness of the head gasket to your measurement. I'm not a pro by any means, but it's what I did to my last tractor and it seemed to work well. Good luck,
Charles

You could probably mill atleast 750thds off the head and clear the dome.
I would recommend aproxomo 20thds, just to true it up !
Why waste a good casting, get the point.

If your really conscindered, put some play doe on a dome, bulk it up and set the head down on it !
use a little wd-40 or pb blaster, that way the doe won't stick !

good luck !

Yep. Dont have to mill it for that head to make power, its the design of the head and the firecrater pistons, along with the 450 cam that makes it a potent setup. Dont make the head plate thickness, no thinner than .300 thick. Whatever else is left over that can me milled off but will be tight for clearence. Chad
