I have a U moline and was wondering what I could do to prevent the governors from surging when I'm pulling down the track?

Sounds to me like you need to lenghten out the linkage from gov to carb.

How far do I need to go? Will this affect my tractor from idling? I'm not sure what the problem is but it goes from a high idle to wide open, there is no throttle response.

If you go to the manual on the "U", it tells you exactly how to adjust the linkage. Can't remember but it is 1/2 the rod diameter longer I think when it is in the wide open position. Check your manual. I'm not sure. deadeye

I am not familiar with MM, but I had that problem with an Oliver and I ended up shimming the governor mechanism tight. The weight mechanism with getting a few thousands play and it would jerk the throttle.

Just sharing info.
