did some of the old ih grain trucks with 301's have the good head on them?does everything on the tractor bolt up the same to the one off the truck? my uncle has a old ih grain truck with a 301 that i could get the head off of.how much HP will it gain me?

No. Wont do you any good if the valve cover is the same size as the tractor. The truck head has a smaller valve cover, shorter rockers/different ratio rockers, but the rest bolts right on to any of the 6 cyl gas engines. A truck head can gain quite a bit of HP, its like the LP heads for the letter series farmalls,,,, Id say 10+ hp easy at 540, and up thru the rpm scale would be even more. ChadS

No difference. They were all pretty much the same casting, maybe the older heads did not have rotocaps on the exhaust valves,, but Ive yet to see one without them, other than the truck head. The truck heads are whatcha want for a high hp stock ci engine. Totally different animal VS the tractor/industrial engines. Chad

Gotta use flat tops when using the truck head. Ross pistons make a good piston for the 301. ChadS
