The secret to making a M carb work, is to open up the venturi. What good will a bigger inlet help if it still goes thru a small venturi? The big motors run a venturi that is 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" ID.
More air, more fuel, more power. If you want your M to run good at 700 rpm, use a stock venturi. If you have a big motor and want big power at the higher rpm's, it take a big carb to feed it.

Farmall M's used only a Farmall carb to work with their governor. An M carb pretty much has to be used but many are enlarged internally. I do not know the specifics, but Gary Baker builds some fine large M carburetors from stock.

I believe so unless there is a big difference or advantage in using a 450 carb. Best to ask him. I've seen them make a noticeable difference in a couple machines around here.
