I have the oportunity to buy a 4055, 2wd, four post rops, 10 hours on major by a john deere dealer, new clutch, looks good, known good maintainance history, turboed 466 engine, less than 7000 hrs. Around $25,000. Will pull farm stock.

What is your input? Buy this tractor or should I wait and eventually buy/build the 6030 I"ve always thought about? We don"t have many 6030"s here in central WI. What kind of $ is a 6030 going to cost me these days, running or otherwise. Will I gain much with a 619 to justify the added trouble, cost, and fewer pulls that I will be able to pull in due to non-stock?

Just wondering

P.S. How do I justify either tractor to my significant other?? Back Blade to plow snow? Roto-tiller, finishing mower? W/O a cab it won"t even be a good dog house!

Sounds a little steep.. but it depends on what been done to the tractor inside... Also check out the pulloff.com site for tractors.. There's been a nice looking 5020 w/619 for sale here.. Found these on the pulloff.com site

First you have to ask yourself, $25,000 for a farm stock puller??? No sir. Buy a 6030 for around 8-10 grand. Needle bearing the diff, port polish the head, stroke crank, pistons, sleeves, pump, and turbo. I would say for the same money you could build yourself a real contender.

Well i'd have to say go with the 4055 for now, but (i can't really say much as i'm a rookie at this sport too)It would probly be cheaper to buy the 4055; but then again you could go all out and build the puller of your dreams as long as you have the money. anyway my opinion: go with the 4055 for now and if you have to...you could sell it as a farm stock or hobbie stock tractor(saying you put the work into it to make it into a puller) and be able to afford to build the 6030 with the money you get for the 4055. Just my 2cents worth DF
