Advancing camshaft timing for more torque...after

We've heard for a couple of years now that advancing the camshaft one tooth on our Moline tractors will increase the low end torque output of the engine. This actually works as we have done it. My question is that if I have the camshaft reground on my ZA for a little more torque, is there still an advantage to advancing it one tooth?

If you get a reground cam, you need to degree it in to what your cam card tells you. I would dyno it with the cam where the card recommends to get a baseline and then start moving it foward from there.

How many degrees is a tooth?

It's a 60 tooth drive gear on the camshaft and therefore if you advance it one tooth it would be 6 degrees. Would that be enough to throw things off?

It would be 6 deg in terms of camshaft rotation, but since cam timing events are expressed it terms of crankshaft rotation, it would be 12 deg different. Make sense??? Mike

One cam tooth is equal to 6 cam degrees, which should be equal to 12 crank degrees since the crank turns at twice the speed of the cam. This would seem to make sense because all degreeing is done at the crank not the cam.
