Ok so I got the 350 sleeves and pistons For my H. My question is do I use the 350 head gasket? The H gasket is quite a bit smaller!! And I have dome top pistons. At TDC will the dome on the pistons come in contact with the head? Do I have to open up the ports?? If I shave the head do I have to have the pushrods shortened?

Also what do you recommend for breaking in a new Tractor motor, and am I missing anything else??

I know its a lot but I am a firm believer in Do it once, Do it right!!

To do it right, you need to shorten the pushrods the same amount that you wack off the head/block. Yes, you can get by with shimming the stands up, but that changes the rocker arm geometry.

You will have to put the slant onthe carb side of the chamber to clear the pistons if they are standard firecrater pistons. You can do this with a hand grinder. Yep 350 head gasket, No you dont have to alter the pushrods when you mill the head,,, Ive taken .200 off a 8043 head and never messed with the rocker stands, the adjusters can be adjusted enough to compensate. another option is to put shims under the rocker stands, exactly what you machined off the head,,,, I doubt you would need the shims, but you know you can do it,,,,, Break in,,,,, , before you fire it up,,, make sure you have oil pressure, and oil at the rockers before you fire it up,,,,, Follow the head toruqe instructions, set the valves at .019 for now,,, cause you will have to readjust them later. Once the engine is running,, warm it up, you have to get the guage up to run off the cold mark,,,, then shut it down pull off the valve cover, remove the rockers and retorque the head again, retorque the manifold, carb flange. Do this while its warm, it makes a difference,,,, if the rocker tips are grooved, smooth em out. grooved will only make the lash adjustment harder to set. Now put the rockers back on and fire it back up, warm it up once more, and then set the valve lash to .017 hot. Run it for about 1/2 hour at half throttle,, after that, change the oil. Now, you need to put a load on the engine for a while, these engine wont break in and run right until they get about 10 working hours on em,,,, keep checking bolt torques and lash adjustments on the valves, if you can put it on a dyno, run it for about 5 hours at a light load and as you get closer to 5 hours, you need to change the oil, and you can work the engine a little harder. Keep a sharp eye on the plug colors and engine temp. White plugs mean lean, black means rich. It just takes time,,,, be patient, try to keep the hot rodding to a minimum till it gets about 10 hours on it. Chad

What did you do to get the 350 sleeves to fit in a H block? I thought the walls were too thin on the H. I thought you had to use a SH block to do that. I may be wrong, but that is what I have been told on here before.

The 350 sleeve flange is what gives the trouble. The H block cant go out that big, so you have to turn the flanges down to the H flange specs,,, you have to bore the block to fit in the sleeves. Chad
