Hello all. I posted a mess. in tractor talk but wanted to put it here also. In a nutshell last year my county fair did not have a pull. I am a new puller 3 years under the belt. I am trying to get a pull here in Morris MN on July 14 during our towns Prairie Pioneer days. This would be an Antique pull 1959 and older. I was wondering if there were any clubs or how to go about getting clubs to participate. I was at a pull 2 years ago where there was a ford club there and is great to see all the old Fords pull and how impressive some of them pulled. Also if anyone had good ideas on how to draw some people to an Antique pull. Thank you in advance for any input Jay

You have a number of options. Ottpa out of Oaks, ND contact Deb Maddock (701) 783-4319 They run stock and improved stock. They put on the Gray Eagle pull, Rose City, Donnelly, Bigstone County Fair pull, and many more in ND.

Or try Dewey Noordmans (320) 382-6390 days or (320) 354-5628 evenings with the Kandiland pullers out of Kandiyohi, MN They run what you want also and they used to put on the pull At Morris, MN. I used to love that track there and had all types of tractors. I think it got too expensive with antiques, out of the field, stock pickups, semi"s, smokers, limited mods, and the open mods. Was always after midnite when we would leave.

There is also the Dalton MN group. Good luck with the pull!

At our pull in Lafayette, the last sat. in July at noon, we try to keep it simple as far as rules. We have a stock and a hobby stock class. The equalizer in the stock class is tire size, weight, and 3 mph, which with almost all tractors means first gear, and the rules say first gear only. With that we get alot of locals to come with the old tractor right out of the shed. The 3 mph is to slow for any even slightly modified tractor to have an advantage over the pure stock tractors. Also stock tractor means a stock hitch and only so high and only stock weights...wheel weights only. In hobby stock, puller hitches and suitcase weights are allowed, tire sizes are set, and speed is still 3 mph, so still no advantage to a modified tractor. It seems to be a way to get more locals to come and pull with us and maybe get them hooked on tractor pulling. Every year we get more new pullers there with a tractor new to pulling. The 3 mph is alot safer speed for begining pullers too. With the pullers mostly locals, we get quite a few spectators also. One thing to think of too, is get a person with a gift to gab or get a local auctioneer to announce the pull, it helps make it more fun for everybody. If he or she knows the pullers too, thats even better. Have some good food there, and no alcohol, and all will have a fun safe afternoon and that is what it is all about. E-mail me if you have any questions. RichH

Forget about getting clubs to come to a pull that isn't sanctioned by their club, they tend to be territorial and stay to themselves. As for a spectator draw, you'll have to tie the antiques in with some other event,(out of the field or superstock).Antique pulling by itself never was a big spectator draw, you have to offer something with it. The best watched pulls insouth central Mn. are at the threshing shows. If you're planning a pull in conjunction with a town celebration, it should be a good draw for a couple years. Always good to see a Mn. puller on this board. Let's see, Morris is only 115 miles....
