While this isn't a receipe for XX number of hp, it helps develop a strong running Div I or II.

Overbore kit for 281.

The regular M head combustion chamber is to large to see any type of significant increase in compression when milling. .060 mill on a M head will only increase the static reading 5 psi. Porting of the head will help with the airflow, along with some slight modifications to the valve bowl and very minor adjustments on the short side radius. Stock valves will work as well but a good radial cut valve seat will increase the cfm a little more than a 3 or 5 angle cut.

A stock reground camshaft from a 400 will help or you can get a cam profile of your choice.

The fire crater piston from IH seems to do the trick. Of course you can always get the kit from Denny's NOT.

Certainly a complete overhaul of the carb, govenor, and air intake system is a must. Sorry, I can't remember the casting numbers on the parts. I guess I have too many numbers running through the cranium already.
