I have a SMTA that I use for stock pulling it was running really well so I left it alone. This winter I changed a lot of things and decided I might as well give it a tune up. (The tractor has three different kinds of plug wires on it!) Remember...it was running really well. If it aint broke dont fix it.
I poured over the old threads and I didnt really see much on this.
If I were to put new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor on (already installed new points and condensor) what would I use to maximize hp gains? Is there hp available there?

Will run alot better with electronic ignition.Good set of 8mm wires.Hot coil and a set of 386 autolite plugs.Might need a resistor with new ignition. Will start easier and respond quicker..Made a difference in my Super M....

The biggest HP gain can be found by using copper core wires instead of automotive-style wires. Personally, I'd use a stock cap and rotor, a new set of copper-core wires, and new Autolite non-resistor spark plugs. Might also consider a new "HOT" high-power coil and an electronic ignition conversion. The electronic ignition probably won't give you any additional HP, but it will make the engine start and run better. I put one on my MH, and it was well worth the cost.

You might try getting a NAPA dist. cap and rotor. They have copper contact points, not aluminum like some other off brand caps. With NAPA parts and elec ignition my M starts with no more that touch of the starter switch.
