I wouldn't want the liability.

I think I'd feel safer with a new, quality, well-made billet flywheel on one of these mega-cube two-bangers guys are building these days than I would with a 60-year-old cast-iron one.

I agree with you G/MAN; a new, well made steel billet would be better than the original iron one.

BUUUUT, I have to really agree with yuk also. I work in a machine shop making parts for pullers, but I wouldnt want anything to do with making a flywheel for one. If the flywheel or engine came apart and a piece hit someone, you have a huge target for a lawsuit pinned to you. You can make the customer sign all the waivers in the world saying you are not responsible if anything ever happened, but with the right lawyer, those waivers arent worth the paper they are written on. If someone got hurt they will sue anyone and everyone.

If there is someone out there making flywheels for Deeres, I wouldnt mind seeing one.

Ive seen laminated flywheels made for the G, welded together, and uses a taper lock device built for it. I questioned the safety issue to them, and they took it apart in front of me, looked for any signs of it being loose, couldnt find anything, and we had a long look! He said its been on it for 15 years. Lots of local, personal witnesses to it, with never a trouble. Always,,, like with any motor sport, something has got to give,, ant any time, any moment is never enough time to escape a JD flywheel spinning at 1500 rpm and takes off across the ground. it hasnt happened yet, but it could happen.
