You need a #1 powerblock, but you can take the 71 carb of an A and put it on along with a gas manifold. if you should happen to stumble on a powerblock, you have to use the styled head, or you can use the 60 head/manifold/carb on it. i would stroke it, 9" aint as easy as it sounds, but 8 is easy. get a good cam and some head work. have an A with 6.125" bore x 7.375 stroke makin 60hp. 5.625 x 9 should make somewhere from 75 to 85hp, depends on how its done.

Kent,

Give Keith Merfeld a call at 563-582-8710. He can tell what to run on that unstyled A. He has a machine shop and he builds stroker cranks and borex blocks etc.... He will probably tell you to bore the block 5 3/4 and use a 9" stroke!

To my knowledge the parts tractors you have will not interchange motor wise, they are a different bolt pattern. As far as the powerblock, a 37 A will need the #1 powerblock. Probably get the biggest bang for your buck with the stroker Crank, go as big as you can, 9" or above. Then sleeve your block oversize or find a #1 powerblock, port out the head and manifold. With this engine work done you should not need to work on the transmission. Others can give you information on the best place to have a crank done. Merfield (spelling?) is one name to look into for cranks.
