How much can I stroke the crankshaft in a 730 diesel without modifing anything else in the engine. I want to use 4 5/8" Moline pistons but they are 1/8" too short so I want to stroke the crank possibly and inch if it will clear and cut 3/8" off the top of the moline pistons. I plan on going to 830 heads. How much should it cost to have the crank stroked?

you need to CC your cylinders. cup pistons are intended for direct injection, using flattops will be ok but you need to figure out how high to run the piston up, stroking will change your compression so a little math is required, you may not have to run it up to the top of the cyl. to get 16 to 1, If you are going to the trouble put in 2090 pistons and direct inject heads and fabricate injection lines, or just bolt in a 336

Forget the question about the heads. My sister-in-law called right in the middle of reading that. Guess I missed it the first time. I don't think the 830 heads will be enough either. The compression seems to be the major issue to me.

Why not use 4 5/8 inch CASE pistons? They should be set up correctly. If you run a 4 5/8 inch bore AND stroke that crank an inch, your compression is going to skyrocket to about 1.5 times what it is now on that diesel. Are you planning on using different heads? There's a lot to be considered when stroking a diesel. They are not near as forgiving as a gas engine because the compression is so high to begin with. Just some thoughts.
