Well if you want to go low you can take them down to 3500 with 13.6 X 38 pressed steel. If you run a 15.5 X 38 pressed steel youll be close to 3750 but you should for sure get 4000. I think the biggest you can go in a 77 is a 3 1/2" piston. I would try and find a 770 block or super 77 block that you can run 3 3/4" pistons. We ran a TSX 374 Marvel Shebler for along time we had plenty of carboration running at 3750 RPM. The 374 will fit on the 77 super 77 or 770. If you keep the 77 block you can easily run a 770 or super 77 intake and exhaust with minor changes like longer studs and different mounts. We are running chevy valves in our 770 I will have to check on the size and get back to you.

It's really amazing how tight you guys can get wound-up.If you took time to read my first post, you would have realized,I was having a little fun asking a question. And also I am a still green at tractor pulling.Anyone that pulls J.D.'s knows that a J.D."B", pulling in 4500# is never going to compete with 70 H.P. "A's & "77"'s to name a few.(other then a few well known big names, that have the time, know how,and money).Secondly,if I was this "Big Timer",why would I be asking people on this board for advice about spending big money.I'd find out who the best pro builders are and contact them. All I was trying to do was get some ideas what has worked for other guys.No wonder only one person has replied about the question, who would want to post something, just to get slammed by a bunch of loud mouths. There are guys on this board that know their Sh##.The one thing I learned years ago racing snowmoblies and drag cars is there's always someone faster, and with more money. And brands really don't mean crap. It's fun to be loyal to one,the same as you cheer your local team. But come on, life is too short to wasted on B.S., acting like kids.Everyone have a great pulling season, and learn to enjoy the sport. It's only a $10.00 trophy.
P.S. If anyone can fill me in on some ideas, Thanks

You make several good points Traitor. However, the way you worded your post sure made a lot of people upset. It doesn't take much to get me going, but several of the others that posted are usually pretty level-headed. You stated that you were tired of getting beat pulling your Deere, and that you were building an Oliver that you were going to ultimately name "Bambi's Nightmare". I can see why people got worked up. There is an intense Deere/Oliver rivalry on this board and on the tracks, and comments like that will stir things up. If you had posted "Hey guys, looking for advice on building an Oliver 77 for 4500 lb class, please help.", you would have gotten a lot different reaction. I, for one, wouldn't have posted anything. The reason so many people got worked up is something called "brand loyalty". I should know, I've got one of the worst cases there is - and I couldn't stand Deeres until about 6 years ago. Anyway, I'm sorry for any trouble that I caused - although I think I was at least halfway decent about the whole deal. Good luck with your Oliver, and keep us posted on your progress/results.

alright heres what ya do, start by getting rid of anything that isn't nessary, like the hydraulic pump, then get some pressed steel wheels and lose the cast ones, the engine you have a lot of choices so do what your buget will allow. hope this helps

Redneck ramblings at their finest.....Now I know why I stay as far away from such crap as possible. Morons cuttting up perfectly good tractors and then wondering why it doesn't work. Go figure...Greg

Oh look, it's the same little guy that posted "go home big mouth G-MAN" trying to start something with someone else. Still haven't figured out that whole internet routing number thing yet, have you?
You must just have problems with anyone who has the guts to post their opinion AND include an email address, don't you? Are you that gutless in real life or just on here? I really doubt if you even pull a tractor, seeing as how you're probably too scared to be out in front of all those people. BTW - you should go back and read Greg's post under the Oliver60/JD G trade thing on page two. He abuses/pulls his G and keeps his Oliver clean and shiny. Sounds like his G does pretty well for him, too. Keep it up Greg - the only thing I like more than a shined up G poppin down the track is an ugly old stocker getting it done.

U'all don't read good,do's u I said"IT"LL BE NAMED"Bambi's Nightmare" (with Elmer Fudd shooting a Deere logo) after we tweak it out" That would mean after I have it doing, what it can do... And I've seen alot Of Olivers beat alot of Deeres at half the money in them. And I still have and enjoy my 3 Classic Deeres in one piece.
P.S. Will I see you pulling at a national event?

No, I really doubt you will see me at a national event. Something about a full-time job and also helping out on the family farm when possible with only 11 days of vacation per year kind of makes that impossible for me. Besides, I could never compete with the big dogs like you. That fact and the attitude of people like you who are only in the hobby to try and rub somebody's nose in the dirt are the main reasons none of my tractors will ever have a NATPA or any other kind of decal on the side. I know the vast majority of pullers are nice, helpful people - but a couple rotten apples spoil the whole barrel. Something tells me if you hadn't been so cocky in your post about a tractor that isn't even built yet, you would have gotten a lot more responses from the true Oliver gurus. I posted a question on the Oliver board and was very impressed by the class and wisdom of nearly all those who replied. Good luck with your Oliver and be sure to post with results of the pulls you attend. I'm also looking forward to the Elmer Fudd artwork. Will it be a self-portrait? I might not read too well (which is laughable), but you surely need to go back to school and learn spelling, punctuation and grammer. BTW - sorry I didn't post name and email on my first post - had a few too many beers that evening.

Hey G-Man I sure get sick of all your smart remarks all the time. It seems to me YOU are the one so jealous of the Oliver group. If you want an Oliver tractor buy one, but dont keep acting like you are so great. You respond to every post about an oliver and since they are no longer in business, you should not worry about them. If you are this great JD man you claim to be, then stick your nose over there. I recall you saying that you would not be back to this forum( Basically all you do here is stir up trouble any way)so go already. I like to ready about tractors and pulling them, not your goofy ideas. Quit egging on fights here before you cause this board to go away.

There's a simple solution to your problem with me. You can simply quit reading any posts with my name on them. I would suggest this because I have no intentions of stopping my posts on this board. If my posts did cause this board to close (which is rather unlikely, considering I'm just an ignorant JD mechanic), I wouldn't even miss it too much. I usually check all the boards and this one seems to be the most counterproductive one on the site. Most of the individual boards are much more helpful. I probably shouldn't have posted what I did, but at least I had the guts to go back and put a name and email address behind it - unlike gutless cowards such as yourself. Like I said, I have no intentions of stopping my posts on this board, so either learn to live with them or don't bother reading them. Sounds fair, doesn't it? Next, I've never claimed to be this great JD man. I am a JD service technician who happens to be pretty good at his job, and I do post frequently on the JD board. If you'll go and look, you will see that most of my posts include me saying that I'm not an expert and my suggestions are just my opinion. If I wanted an Oliver, I WOULD go buy one instead of adding to my small Deere collection - but then you wouldn't have anything to complain about, would you? I would have posted the same thing if someone posted that they intended to call their tractor "Oliver Killer". You apparently don't understand that it's the principle of the thing, not the color of tractor. I did at one point in time say I wouldn't be back to this board - however, I got to thinking that that would only egg you on to be even more of an idiot to those you don't happen to agree with, in addition to letting you think you got the best of me. If you think you have or want this big problem with me, email me and we'll discuss it - or I can give you my address and we can take it up face to face. Something tells me you wouldn't be up to that, though. Until you can grow up some and communicate on a little more adult level, I suggest YOU stop posting on this board. Maybe you can email me a list of some of your pulling and mechanical achievements and I will respect your opinion a little more - or not. I don't believe anything in my last post was directed at you or anyone else besides Traitor - so butt out, you're the one trying to stir up fights.

Good one G Taylor - I figured it would only be a matter of time before somebody decided to roll the little punk. You and I may take some grief for some of the things we post, but at least we have the guts to back it up. What's up with all these college kids that have nothing better to do than screw with people on these boards? If memory serves, I think this twit posted on some of the things the punk from KU or K-State did. They must be "special friends". I'm sure their parents are glad they're laying out the big bucks so there kids can be cyber-morons.
