I am not getting good results from my 14.9X38 Firestons 23 degree Field and Road tires. I pull low gear stock rpm SM Farmall. I have varied the tire pressure from 12.5 down to 10.5. They really sqatt at 10.5 in the 6500 pound class and then just break loose. I have them on 11X38 rims, should I have them on 14X38 rims or just go back to my Armstrong 15.5X38 long bar, short bar tires. They seemed to never fail me but I thought the 14.9X38 Firestone was going to be my answer. Thanks for your thoughts.

Yeah definately to narrow of rims. Im running my 14.9's on a 16" wide rim and they hook up great. But 14" is also a very good choice - definatley not any more narrow.

14.9 were made for 13 inch rims, if you want to change what's your price for the 14.9s

On 14 inch cotton picker wheels I had Good Year Power Torque 15.5's last year and they would let go no matter how I tried to weight the tractor at about 150-175 ft with the front wheels up about 6-12 inches high. This year I now have a old set of "Gum Dipped" Firestone Field and Roads 15.5's.On the same tracks and sleds there is about 25-50 ft difference further down the track with the Firestones.I Don't run them less than 13 psi no matter where I am at cause I don't want them to wrinkle too much.I have to run more weights on the front to hold it down than I used to.I don't know how much clete you have and how roadworn they are but you need a 14 or 15 inch wide wheel to get the whole clete on the ground.Armstrongs are a good chioce also but to compare you need equal width rims.

The rims seem a bit narrow for 14.9's. I thought the biggest you wanted to go on an 11 was 13.6. What did your holes look like after you spun out? I would imagine they were pretty rounded out in the middle.

Hmmm...curious results you're getting....I've got Titan 14'9-38's on my "gas compression" John Deere G and I'm not too excited about their pulling ability so far. But, with only 4 pulls done so far with them, "the jury is still out". The 14.9-38 Firestones on my "pretty stock" John Deere GW do a good job on all tracks. I do change air pressures according to the track, going to harder tires for hard tracks (12 to 14 psi) and soft (10-12 psi) for soft loose tracks. I'm still learning.....guess all of us "amateur" pullers have lots to learn.

I run a 12 inch rim on a set of goodyear 14.9s low gear with a stock hitch set at 18 inches. The taller tire makes for better ground speed in low gear classes, so its kinda sorta easier to put the hp to the ground. Bumps 3.1 mph at 10% over rpms. Always gets by the our SM with 15.5s on 14 inch rims at a hevier weight. Just my 2 cents,,,
