I have a '51 model A that's a 1-stick with the creeper gear for first.

A couple of the places that I pull at, let me pull in 2 plow class that's 6000#, which is great because that's what it weighs w/2 sets of wheel weights. I've pulled 191' on up in this class.

A couple of other places make me pull in 3 plow class 7500# against G's. I've pulled around 75-100' in these classes. They say that because of the creeper gear that it's a 3 plow tractor.

I've not won in the 2 plow class because I have stock pistons, manifold, etc. But at least I feel competitive.

What are your thoughts?

turns out that they are looking at adding a 3 plow light (6000#) class next year. that will help bunches.

Back when A's and G's were in wide use, the single stick A's usually were paired with 3 bottom plows and the 2 sticker A's about half and half 2-16's or 3-14's. Stock G's pulled 3-14's better than any A's in tough conditions and a lot of G's that got high compression gas pistons and manifolds pulled 4-14's or 4-16's pretty decent in the mostly sandy loam soils here in southern Michigan. Where the soil was the heavy clay, A's struggled with 3 bottoms and G's were the 3 bottom choice....it took a heavy tractor with extra power in the heavy soils, some M Farmalls were pulling only 2-16's too. Weighted Massey-Harris 44's seemed to handle 3 bottoms as good as any of the more popular brands....Minnie Mo U's did good too.

They have those JD A's pull in 2 plow as well. I know the HP rating is close, that's probably why. I did always think that was a bit screwy.

Also, what argument could I use, if any, to try to get them to change it?

I dont understand why creeper gear alone would make it a 3 plow tractor....you dont use 1st gear to plow anyway. What class would they make a 1947-49 gas "A" with a 3/2 transmission run?

One argument they may use against you is that the rated HP of a gas "A" isnt but a few HP less than a "G"(on kerosene).
