Where can I find high altitude or firecrater pistons for a International 301 engine? I am wanting to build this engine with better pistons and head work, I do not however want to stroke it. If you have built a 301 before I would like to hear what parts you used for things such as the valves and lifters. What would the horsepower potential be at regular 806 rpms?

Your looking for LP, high atltitude for a 806 or 715 combine. Those are the highest compression piston available for a 301. part number: 382074R91. If you can find em. I thought I got the last set in captivity a few years ago. Ross pistons are widly available, but mostly flat top in design. Chad

How tight will it be with LP pistons and the head? Are there any truck heads that would provide the same compression effect?

The truck heads are just like the LP heads for the farmall 4 cyl. Takes a relitivly flat top piston, but firecraters can be altered to work. Would jump HP 20 Hp pretty easy, 1 from the cyl pressure increase, and 2 from the bigger ports VS the tractor heads to allow more flow to feed it. Would have to run on higher octane fuel, at least 105 octane. Ive got a truck head for sale if your looking for one. Chad

The LP high alt piston will bump the cyl pressure up 25 psi easily VS the stock firecrater. they still have the eyebrow for the dome, but have no crater in the center. Chad
