High compression and altered ignition timing will both get you added hp and both will require higher octane fuel. If you don't have the first you don't need the last.

100LL has a pump octane of approx 96-97. If your natural aspirated engine knocks on 100LL. There is either something wrong with it or it's setting up. Or the compression pressure has been increased way past the point of diminishing returns. Airplane fuel is less inclined to vapour lock. Airplane gasoline will store for years in a fuel system without turning into gum, varnish & goo. I fill the entire fuel system of off season equipment with 100LL when in storage. The cost of 100LL is very close to that of automotive 92-94 octane.

We run 110 octane in our tractor and it probably gives it a boost of about 3-5 hp, im not sure. But it depends on your compression and your stroke. The bigger the stroke, and the more compression you have, the more you will get out of higher octane fuel. So if you're pulling a stock tractor, id say "no" it wont do you any good.

I disagree (respectfully) I heard dont run more octane than you need you are wasting money and power. I do agree that it smell really good when it burns! It is also a VERY clean fuel compared to pump gas. They have a lot tighter tolerances on water, fm, etc.

Cost much less...has 100 - 102 octane...works well in slightly modified engines (also stock )
Needs a little oil in it as it is dry.
Beware that your speed may increase just before lift off
