Hey gang, I posted a message the other day asking what select-o-speed Ford to choose when it comes to pulling, and got no response. I need the tractor to be started in production prier to 1959, so I'm looking at probably the 801-901 series. Possibly the 601-901 series. I will be pulling the 3500# stock class and up, so I want the most stock HP possible. Any suggestions?

I could be mistaken but,i think the sos tractors were first produced in 1959 and not prior.

You may want to check with the tec of the club that you will be pulling with. Some rules limit the size of tractors in classes below 3500. This rule usuly says Oliver 77 / MH 33 and like sized tractors cannot pull in classes below 4000. Some times they youse a HP limit of 45 hp. This may not be the case but would best found out befor you buy the tractor. Good luck we need more 3500 class tractors.

Ford 800 series. They can weigh as light as 3500# with driver, and at 46 pto hp, have power enough to let you pile on a great amount of weight on and still handle it well. One of the most powerful tractors for their size ever built.

Arnold Martin from Athens, MI has a few Fords and knows them well. He wins consistently with NATPA. I know some have an RPM advantage over others. Ford in general is very competitive because of their RPM advantage, light weight, decent engines, and gear selection. Utility tractors in general are neat machines from I-H 300, Ferguson TO series, M-M 335/445, and so on. I think I would put my Jet Star up against any other utility for power-to-weight but I like to brag.

Thats right 46 @ pto. Once you get everything figured out, you are ready to upset the competition. As I like to look @ it, we are to underdog of the pulling world.

Go with the 800-900 series. Heavier rear end than the 600. We run a 600, but try not to go over 4000 because of the rear end. Arnold Martin will tell you the same thing. We also have a MM-445 and starting at 4000, its pretty tuff since it has the hi-low range. Lots of gear selections. Both of these tractors do well up to 5000# without additional hp. Over 5000#, more HP over stock is usually needed.

Do you think a 335 rear end would work up to 5000# or more? Too light? A Jet Star tranny has a lower setup through 4th. I think my 335 may get jet gears. Not sure if I have any ring/pinion options though. What's the deal with a Ford with one type tranny allowed different RPM than another even though they are almost the same?

Around 2:00am. They still had 2 more classes to go but we already had everyone weighed by then. I passed on the big tractor classes for the announcing since I had to be in Ionia Mi. fri-sat. for their NTPA grand National. Good talking with you. Hopefuly we can do the indoor pull at LaOtto Ind. again and you can try your luck there again. More miles this weekend for me with Mount Sterling Il. on fri, Morley Mi. sat. and Findly Oh. sunday. Kevin will be at Findly Oh. fri. and Harlan Ind. sat. with the antiques.
