do you know of anyone who has done this? I broke a crank and block and am looking at the replacement cost associated and think this would be less money and more fun. could you pull with the v8's? or would there be enough interrest to start a class in a couple years? what are your thoughts?

What kind of clutch/flywheel setup are you running?

I had a good discussion yesterday with chad about engine swaps. we discussed everything IH builds from a 301 to a 466. I did not realize how easy it would be to put a different IH powerplant in an M or H. I didn't realize there are basically only 3 bell bolt patterns and adapter plates used in tractors and they will all direct bolt to an M. the only reason I was looking at a cummins was because I have one of each and thought cost to put it together with a 5.9 or a 3.9 would be very low. using an IH engine would let you use IH parts to build everything. Most everyones biggest concern about building something like this is "where would you pull?". I can't help but think along the lines of if you build it they will come. if you think about the V8's, there weren't hardly any of those 6 or 8 years ago when Div 4 was at it's peak, but now it's all but dead due to cost of assembly and the V8's are huge. I really don't care for spark plugs and carborators or I would build one of those. I can't help but think this would be fun and easy for people to build.

I have never done it, but doubt it would be that hard. The main problem you will have is with getting the power to the ground if you build one real hot. It will take alot of tire and a good clutch so you can use 4th gear.

There is a guy in our club that has an M with a turbocharged four cylinder Cummins. I don't know all the installation details but understood that most of the work was to the flywheel(M) and the motor plate. It pulls at about 5 mph.

With some very minor mods the 6 cyl cummins will outpull most of the v8's it has tons of torque.
