Do any of you massey guys know anything about putting a dodge 265 ci motor in a 101. I have found one and am thinking about putting it in my tractor.

A stock headgasket is out the window. thin distances inbetween the cyls. at .060 its almost hanging over the sides, fire rings might not last as long as they should if they hold at all with a stock head gasket. Copper n orings, different story. Can they cut orings the same pattern as a head gaskets fire ring???? The .060 limit was just my thought on the gasket. Chad

I've pulled the 101 before in div.III. but I'm wanting to build a div. IV or V tractor. I plan on doing a cam grind, port work, big carb, shave the head, new pistons, rings and bearings. I hope to be able to pull in 2nd for sure and hopefully 3rd. What do you think?

About shaving the head. Dad and I thought we would do the same thing and it ended up being a mistake. Now we are talking (extreme) head shaving. Took the head off the tractor and placed playdough yes kids playdough on the valves and placed head back on and rolled the engine over enough to flatten the playdough. Took head off and measured the playdough. Then we had the head shaved as much as we could. While pulling I had to step down a gear 2nd to 1st in 3600 lbs. class. I have heard that it didnt allow the tractor to breath right when we did that. I had a aluminum Edmunds head for sale here about 6 months ago no takers at $550. Put it on Ebay and it brought $1000.

mark the cylinders where the top ring is highest in it's stroke, and clear out a 45 degree champher towards the valves. will net a little flow.

Cant do much on the bore size. .060 is bout max overbore for those. Brother in law has one bout 320 ci out of a 265. Speed limit tractor, 4 mph, with 15.5s up to 4500 handles 2nd gear pretty well. On the right sled and the right track, turning it loose, id say it would launch it in 3rd, but would be working the motor pretty hard. 2nd would be ok, 3rd gear is pretty fast. our club sled is about 28,000 lbs on average, but it has a huge pan and a very sloped incline so it will stop it, but when it gets a bite a pulls, it done quite well. Just dont shave the head down too much. spitfire engines were a higher rpm engine, dont know if the cams are the same or not. Isky built the cam thats in it now, and it does just fine. Chad

101 bellhousing, flywheel, clutch, cut a fan spacer down for the fan to clear the radiator, make ya a new front motor mount that moves the location forwards an inch or two. Manifolds,,, the one we found, went thru the stock hood hole. Was told it was from a power unit being updraft carb. Or of you got one that has the downdraft setup, and its ok to have that then get a tin hood made and not cut up the stock 101 hood. Belt driven governors, they are wicked pullers dialed all in. That 265 likes that fast first gear! Takes alot to run 2nd gear in em and still have power with the 265. Im no serious massey harris enthusiast, but I do like em. Number 2 on my favorites list, right below IH, but way above moline. HA! Case is #3, cause the eagle that fly when they take over the lead, for a moment or so. Oliver at #4, cause, well, track records for years speak for themselves. They can make ya green with envy, or flat out puke. (no offence there ollie guys, but damn!) John Deere takes number 5 slot.

Ah crap. There goes the neighborhood!

Not just massey harris at number 2, but a 101, with the chrysler. Even with the small block, whta is it?? I was told 217, or a 230. They still pull well. Sorry bout the list there,, uh,, Ive seen 101s do quite well on a pulling track. Even back on the farm, that 265 would feel right at home. Hope this helps. ChadS
