I finally got the 301 in my 460 going good. It has the POWER. I pull deadweight percentage with this tractor on dirt. When you start out you want to start slow so you dont break up the dirt. My governor is surging bad though. As soon as I let out of the clutch it will rev hi and then low fast and over and over. This throttle jerking is breaking my tires loose from the dirt. What do I need to rebuild in the governor? This governor is a 460 governor and it runs about 2000 wide open.

There are several things you can do for this. The easiest is to try to adjust the buffer spring. This can be done by adjusting the set screw on the back of the governor. However, not all governors have this screw. Another thing you can do is drill a higher hole in your gov. arm so the spring will be tighter(assuming your using the newer style linkage with two arms). This will hold the governor tighter so it won"t bounce back and worth. You can also grind about half the weight off of the weights in the gov. This will make the governor much more responsive and you should be able to adjust your rpm very easily and get more out of it if you want. I had the same problem with my 301/460. I did these things and don"t have any problems with it now and it seems to hang in there a little longer now.
