Had to pull the head on my Cockshutt 50 gas. Got the head gasket ordered, but looked thru all my stuff and can't find any info as to how much to torque the head bolts. Forgot to write it down 13 yrs. ago when it was off last...

The head's been milled but I can't remember exactly how much - thought it was .125", but my brother thinks it's more. But I do remember the shop telling me not to get crazy tightening the bolts down 'cause the head might crack...

Hope someone can tell me by Saturday - that's when it's going back together. Plan on pulling it the following day...

Stopped by Coulter's in N. Branch, MI. They got out their AC D19 shop manual. The head on the D19 gas is basically the same as the one on my 50. It shows the torque as being anywhere from 110 to 120 lbs./ft. That'll work...

By the way, the head gasket is the same one used on the 230, 262 and 273 Buda engine. I had the Napa store check the part number to see if the 230 and 262 were the same - it's the same part#. The gasket works for the 273 as used in the 50.

Thanks for the replies...

Better not go that high on a 1/2" stud. Stripped one at 110 lbs./ft. Went back to Coulter's and had them look up the WD45 Diesel and D17 Diesel. Showed 70 lbs./ft. with a 1/2" stud on a WD45, and 90-95 lbs./ft. with same size stud on a D17. I went with 90 lbs. with no more problems...
