Anyone ever weigh an 8 ply? Anyone use/like/dislike these kind of tires? How do you alp think they stack up to a f151, field and road, and a BFG 30 degree of the same size...
any input appreciated..AC

I just came in from weighing some tires.

16.9X38 long bar short bar 8 ply-206 LBS.

18.4X38 151 all traction Firestone 6 ply-230 LBS.

18.4X38 super all traction Firestone 8 ply-200 LBS.

18.4X38 BFG's 6 ply 190 LBS.

I do have some 6 ply 18.4X38 super all traction Firestone's but they are mounted on some heavy wheels so I couldn't weigh them.

I hope this will give you some idea, sorry I didn't have exactly what you were asking about.

Jim

I just got the 16.9 supers dismounted, and I have to pick them up tomorrow. On the way home Ill drop by the fruit exchange and hit the scales and post the results on here.
I really kinda want 16.9 BFG's but I havent found any around here yet....THANKS AGAIN..AC

Hi Jim: Are you sure your weights on the 151 and the Super All-Tractions were right? I was told the Super All-Tractions were heavier. Hope you had them right. I am looking to buy a pair of 18.4 x 38 Super All-Traction. Any help appreciated. Art

Well Art that's sure what they weighed. Mike Alyward told me that a Super All Traction 8 ply was lighter than a 6 ply 151 but I didn't think it would be like that. I will say that these tires are not cut and the All Tract's have a little over half inch of tread and the 151's have one inch of tread. I guess I should have stated that.

Jim

I have a set of 18.4-34 Super All Traction on a 460. They were brand new and on the tractor when I bought it a few months ago. I pulled it a few times and it piled up dirt BAD in front of the sled. Last week I took a Bosch wood planer to the top of the treads, 56 treads per tire (!) and cut them down to 1 inch high and beveled them back, then took it to a pull last Sunday. It made a HUGE difference. They really need to be cut down to 1/2 inch high lugs- probably. I sort of like the tires. I've pulled with a set of 16.9-38's Field and Road on a Ford 7600 (uncut)for a few years and they don't grab with a darn compared to these Super All Tractions.. for what it's worth.

Didn't weigh mine but on the scales the tractor didn't seem any different.I was running B.F 30 degree 16.9 38's and changed over to the Super all Traction 23 degree on 15 inch rims on a G I once had. There was a noticable difference in traction,on most clay, sandy, and just hard tracks they were lots better. However on clotty tracks where the dirt was breaking up into chunks they were worse.Mine were best when the sun was setting and the moisture came up to the top, then I found out what kind of engine I had.Good luck
