What diesels will bolt right into the farmall 560 without changing backplates or anything? Is there a bigger version of the 560 diesel in a combine or anything? I have a 560 gas tractor with a bad motor and I want to bolt in a diesel. I want this to be simple----- no machining or swapping parts. Basically I want to know if there is a diesel engine based on the 560 diesel that is CI bigger but the same block. Also does anyone have one for sale close to southern ohio?

Wonder how hard it would be to put a d310 in it?

I have a DTA 360 out of a 4700 IH truck that needs a new home! :) I wouldn't be surprised if it was a mighty close fit for the back plate. 190 HP would be fun. If I don't end up selling it my plans are to find a dead 560 to put it in so I can compete around here in the stock classes! ;) Well, OK, maybe the slightly modified classes.

I have a Dt 466 that i thought about putting in it. TOO much work. The block is 2" too long. I would of had to of found another back plate. A custom flywheel would have to of been built so the starter ring gear would work since the starter goes in through the back. With the block longer you have to do a lot of fabricating, including finding another radiator and probably stretching the hood. It isnt the most difficult swap, but it isnt as easy as people let on. This is why I just want to put a 282 or 301 in it and just slap a turbo on it.

The DT 360 is 3.5" shorter than a 466. There would be a good bit of custom work but even in "stock" form it would be good for 190 HP at 2800 RPM. If the right deal comes along I might have to go for it myself. Couldn't be any harder than the small block Chevy I have in a Farmall M.

that sounds like a good idea, since the motor is shorter. what front and back plates are needed for this, im curious that might be a good idea to try

Just curious, is this the same gas engine that you were saying would accellerate quickly, because mine is doing the same thing, and I am wondering what is wrong with yours.

Are you talking about it not reving up smoothly or are you talking about it surging rapidly?

I meant not revving up smoothly, but it was 3 in the morning last night when I posted and I must have left out some words. I got mine figured out for the most part though. The previous owner gapped the plugs at .070 and it had a faulty plug wire, that only intermittenly malfunctioned. I need to figure out what plugs it really needs though. I got it to where it will rev really smooth now, It just has a lot of random sputtering at idle, I hope new plugs and wires will get rid of that, but it only does it at idle, once you rev to around 800 it smoothes completely out and purrs. Any Ideas?

they are picky on timing, also check to make sure the manifold doesnt have any leaks in it. when mine was sputtering before all i did was replace one plug and it ran great, oh yeah make sure your valves are at .27 hot

Like Mike said 301 out of a 403 or 715 thats what I have in one of my 560's.Every thing is straight forward except the oil filter base has to be changed to the 560 cast iron base and change the bypass port, plug one hole and bore one in the block.Makes a 90 to 100hp 560 oh and I have a turbo also.

I have seen a DT-358 out of a IH 782 cotton picker in a 560D. Not sure of any mods, but it sure ran good.

A D301 out of a 715 IH combine is a bigger cubic inch engine that will work in your 560. Looks just like a 282(factory 560 diesel). Will have to have the front covers off a 560 diesel for it to fit. A 310 german will fit also but needs lots of work to fit, hope this helps.
