I called about 20 places before I found someone that was able to put two seats in the head off my R. It has 1/2 valve stems and no one around had a 1/2 pilot. I had to drive about 50 miles to pick it up today. It was cleaned, checked for cracks, Surface checked, Two new seats and the other two ground and the valves ground also. It cost me $45.00 The company was Woodys crankshafts in Clinton, NC. Is that a deal or is that a deal?? I was smiling all the way home..

That actually sounds about right, Casepower. The guy that does all our machine work for the dealership quoted me $50 to install 4 hardened seats in my G head, and when I had him grind the valves and install a new guide the first time I had the head off, it was about $35. There are some good deals to be found if you take the time to look. BTW - why is a Case fan messing around with an old p.o.s. Deere? Just kidding - good luck with the R.

G-MAN, I like the all. I think that we should be fighting USA---VS---Overseas tractors. You got to admit the ones before us did us all proud. There is nothing like a good old USA hunk of iron. I think these color wars are a joke and will talk crap about any kind for FUN. If it was up to me I would have one of every tractor made. The only tractors I have seen that I dont like is a grey farmall M and a purple Avery A. So what color are you going to paint your G?? If one brand tractor starts winning every class at every pull then I will start liking that brand.. CASEPOWER

I agree with you on liking all brands. I like tractors in general and John Deeres in particular. The FRIENDLY rivalry is what makes the hobby fun, but it is the outright color bashers that make it really frustrating. They all have their good and bad points. What I find really funny is the idiots who think that just because I go by G-MAN and have Deeres, that I probably feel that Deere tractors are perfect. They couldn't be more wrong. I work on green tractors (the right color green, lol - uh-oh, now I'll get bashed by Oliver guys) every day, and I can give you a list of recurring problems I've seen on Deere tractors that would be pages long. Hopefully, when I'm done with the G I'm working on now, and the one I'm about to buy, I'll be working on a Farmall M that belongs to my grandpa. It's a straight old tractor and also happens to be the first tractor I ever drove. My plan is to get everything fixed that needs fixin' and hopefully get grandpa to go to some pulls with me. That oughta make people wonder - an M and a G together on a trailer, lol. Anyway, feel free to give me a hard time whenever you want, because I know it's all in good fun with you.

Well, I'm hoping we can maybe put them on different sides of the same shed first, so they can iron out there differences before they go on the trailer, lol. Actually, the G came from a place that was populated by many old F-series Farmalls, and the M spends time in the same shed with a Deere 8450, 4560, 9500 combine, etc so they should be able to handle the integration well, lol. I just hope they don't gang up on some poor Case, Oliver or Allis, cause I don't think either has seen one of those. Now that I think about it, an M and a G would make an interesting team in a double-tree pull.

G-man, I would hate to think what would happen if my 4200 pound Case and my R got in a fight. I think weight to power ratio the Case would kill the R. 295 CID is not to bad for a 4200 pound tractor. So are you going to paint the deere-red or the IH-green??

I plan on staying with the factory color on each, lol. I've seen tractors painted other than their factory colors (apart from industrials, etc) and all I can say is "what the hey are those guys thinking?". I'm not insulting anyone who paints their tractor a different color, I just don't understand it. As for the outcome of a fight between the G and the M, I would have to side with the G - I think there's a little more iron in the right places - like the trans and final drives. And overall, you just see a lot more iron in a Deere - take off the tin work and all you have left is cast - even the valve cover, lol. So if they got in a do or die tug of war, I think the G would last longer before scattering, lol. Now we'll see how many true blue Farmall fans post and rip on my for calling their Ms weak - lmao.
