Mshultz,,, when you say the M was right on, and you had to make a key for the H,,,,,
Was the cams' stock and you guys were dialing in a stock cam, or were they regrinds? What made the H so far out of whack to need the key to be offset? Normal wear and tear on the gears and the keyways? Or are they really that far off from the start? How did it help after you degreed the camshaft?

Well I believe I'm going to make a TDC stop. Back to the degree wheel My crank has the end for the crank starter

the end of the crank is center drilled. If I remember right, we drilled it about 3/4" and put 1/4" threads in it and attached the degree wheel directly to the end of the crank. We could probably loan you the wheel if you need it.

Thanks for the idea I'll prolly try that. I believe I'm just going buy one my self, I figured I'm young and in my life I'll probably need one. Right now I'm just playing around with it trying to see if i can find a little more power. Then I'll have everthing I need if I ever build what I want, well except the money. Thanks again for the help and the offer

Be careful when tapping the hole. It really only takes a few threads to hold the degree wheel on - no need to overdo it. Good luck - I think it's well worth the effort.

The whole thing is different from one engine to another - some are right on, and some are off a little. My understanding is that when they were made they had a certain amount of tolerance for things (cams, gears, keyways, cranks, etc.) to be off a smidge and still operate under normal working conditions fine. But when trying to fine tune for max power we want to eliminate the tolerance for being off a little and make it as perfect as possible - which is why you degree your cam in relation to your crank rotation. Tim Carr made a key for us for our H, and the M was okay. Good luck.

The degree wheel will come with adapters for different size crank bolts, it bolts to the end of the crank. You will also need a 0"-1" dial indicator and adjustable magnetic base and a piece of wire for a pointer and the cam spec. card to degree your cam.

I should have also added a positive piston stop to find top dead center.
