I've known of Art for over fourty years and lived within 60 miles of him and never, not once, have I ever heard anyone say anything bad about the man. In all those years any time anyone talked about Art Arfons it was always how good he was, or how nice he was, now that is a real legand.

Real sorry to hear that. One of my early tractor pulling memories was when my dad introduced to him! He was one of the best!

i remember watching him at ntpa events at atlanta speedway in the '70's. he pulled the green monster jet engined machine. i got to tour the pits with my dad as he worked on a few super stockers and he told us his rear wheel speed was over 120mph. he had his wheel weights to keep spinning in rear wheels to add momentum. it was later i read he set all kinds of records. i think he has won in every type of motorsport, nhra, nascar, land speed, ntpa and many more.

Art was really something. One thing I didn't know until reading NHRA site was that he set the speed record of 150 MPH in Kansas City in 1956.
