doing some "brain stroming" here and doing some home work, I was wondering how these IH diesels pull, there arent many around here and i thought that it would be interesting to pull one. I know there realllly expensive to build.. But im not looking at doing alot of pulling just a few local fairs. Im looking at a good running Super MD as far as i know it stock. anyway will that diesel pull at all or will the JD 60's and gas Super M's walk all over it. I want the tractor to add to my collection but i was thinking thta it might be interesting to give it a try pulling if it will.

Thanks for the help

Andrew

Thanks Joe, I would be mainly pulling it with a stone boat nothing special. That Super H is our puller tractor now i pulled it in 5500 at the end of the year and i was impressed, out pulled 3 M's 2 JD A's a 60 and a few olivers, ended up like 7 0ut of 17 for the first time i was really please, and i was 275 lbs light for the class. Alos in the fall i had that tractor in the UCONN homecoming parade, it was a big hit and sounds great with a 3" strait pipe. type in Andrew Zadora in the phots add and i have a few pics in there.

There this Super MD in Maine and its priced right so im thinking about it, not really as a puller but as collecter tractor but i would love to hook her up.

Thanks again

Andrew

I've seen a MD pull a few times, as soon as he lost 3-400 rpm's, he was done.

I'm sure the TA on the tractors mentioned above contributed WAY more to the good pull results than did the diesel engine part of the equation.

My uncle has a Farmall 400 diesel that he wants to sell. His boy used to pull it alot and did yery well with it in the heavier classes. They are a little nose heavy for the lighter classes. I believe that the only thing wrong with it is that it has a bad seal in the injection pump and this causses the injection pump to spill fuel into the oil. The tractor is in Northeast Ohio.

Go to the photos and type in farmall md pulling tractor, I have a few pics of mine, 6000lb class is it's sweet spot 7000 depends on the track. It will hang with any 720, 730 deere.

Mine doesn't pull for ___. But it also has two bad injectors and who knows what else. It probably looses power as it tries to sling the crank through the oil pan that is mostly full of fuel oil :)
There is a guy that pulls at the fair w a stock SMDTA that wins unless somebody comes with an antique puller (ie 100 hp M) The class is supposed to be STOCK.
I watched a guy w a SMD and he did middle of the class.
They are pretty heavy and I think the diesel throws the weight balance off, but if you are only going to pull it three times a year you must not care if you take first everytime. Go pull it!

Hi,

A long time ago, I drove a MD with Duals and an engine that someone had really built up. I can say that it could out pull any M gas that I drove. Of course, with the diesel engine, wide front end, duals, 4 wheel weights, and the outside dual were loaded it also out weighted most M tractors.

I myself would really like to own an MD. Most people want a lot of money for them now. I just like the way the sound when you switch them from gas to diesel.
