How many good tractor pulls are still around?

I have kind of an interesting question. How many of what I call "good" tractor pulls are there still operating. You know, the kind of pull where everybody helps everybody else, guys help their competition throw weights between classes, help each other tune and fix, and everybody kicks back with a cold beverage when it's all said and done.
I'm a southeast Nebraska boy, and I grew up around what I consider a heck of a pull in Pawnee City. It seems like when I was little, they pulled everything there: mini-rods, stock and modified 2wd and 4wd pickups, farm tractors, pro-stock tractors, antiques, you name it. The pull would last from 6 p.m. Friday night til about 2 or 3 Saturday morning, and from 4pm Saturday til 3 or 4 Sunday morning. I can't remember for sure, but I imagine they would have something like 500 hooks in a weekend - the pit area was literally packed with iron. That pull had several down years, but is now making a good comeback - I think they had around 200 hooks in one night last year. I was just curious how many guys have been around pulls like that, and if there are any left around.

Hi G-MAN. Just wondering if you'll be at Summerfield sunday. I won't be pulling, but may try to get up there for a little while to watch them get started. Sent a pull-back tractor that way today. Our church picnic is sunday, so time doesn't permit me to do any pulling.

Didn't know about the Summerfield pull til just now, but I am heading down that way today, so I will definitely go to the pull. Jeff Knaaf is a pretty good friend of mine, so I will go see how he does and pick up some tips from the pros, lol.

Come on over to the Iowa side on Labor Day weekend on Sunday. Blairstown Iowa has a good pull. Three sleds!! One antique club with there sled. One mini rod / garden tractor club and sled and one large sled for trucks and tractors. Farm and limited pro stock classes on that sled. If you like all kinds it is a good one to go to. I will be there with my son, pulling antiques and I also will run my diesel in and open farm type class. Look me up and we will share some stories and a cold one and maybe two! Dave W.

Is that pull anything like the pull they have at New Vienna that is the Sun after Labor Day ? Some of us went there two yrs ago , took 5 tractors , my son and I pulled in the heavy pace tractor classes , the others ran the hot farm classes . They had a class for everybody seemed like , started mid morning and went to almost dark . I think they said there were about 200 hooks . That's my kind of pull , wish they had them here . I'm 65mi east of Q-Cities right on I-80 . There are only a couple out of the field class pulles within 50mi of here , everything else is the big$$ 600cui stuff nowdays . Didn't go last year because my son got married that weekend but sure am planning on this year . I like to pull 12-16 , even 18 now and then , not too fond of the pace tractor but it makes a driver out of you . My younger boys like to pull their Chevy trucks but I still like to pull my old Deeres . Another week the hay will be done and spraying done then time to clean em up and go PULLING . Jim

Jim, A very similar program other than I would say the Blairstown event is larger as they run three sled the same time verses two at New Venia. Blairstown also pulls trucks the same day where New Venia does not. I run at both these pulls and both are very well managed programs and both draw very large crowds. Great Iowa hospitality!! I am sure you would enjoy either.
