What do you think? 18.4X28 or 15.5X38 the 18.4 weighs 185 lbs. is 176 Cir. and 59.4 Dia. The flat plate is 250 sq inches. The 15.5 weighs 184 lbs. is 184" Cir. and the Dia. is 61.6. The flat plate is 189 sq. inches. Both are 6 ply. So my question is why don"t you see anybody running 18.4X28 like on a WC where the gearing is to fast for second.

If question is in regards to tractor pulling
preferences, there are several factors. Wheel
spacing with the 28" rims become a problem with
the wc due to interference with bullgear/brake
housing. This causes a wider wheel spacing and
causes tractor to "walk" side to side as it is
pulling more so than does a narrower wheel spacing. Building more low rpm torque in engine
will help offset taller tires. even though the
18.4s have larger footprint, there is less weight
per square inch being applied to track surface
which can result in less track distance. I have
had better results with the taller narrower tires
particularly on hard dry tracks. This is based on
my past experiences. I pull a wc using either
18.4-34 or 14.9-38 or 15.5-38. very rairly do I
use the 18.4-34 during winter pulls where track
preperation is usually better than local summer
pulls. I can also save about 120 pounds per pair
over the wider tire/wheel combination. A good set
of Firestone 14.9-38 field and roads on a wc make
a very good combination as tires are rather short
and are fairly light weight. They will pull good
up through 4500 pound classes at 4mph or less.
Hope this will help some with your question.
