Question... IF I were to diesel with my farmall M puller... what would be the easiest to bolt in and what would anyone recommend for the transmission? Also... if I were to buy an IH 460 or 560, what diesel could I put in there easiest. I have a little left over this year and I thought about maybe buying a burned out combine for its engine.. is this feasible??

If you are going to put a non c-series motor in the 560, just go with a 400 series diesel. You are going to have to lengthen the stuff and mess with flywheels and ring gears either way, so you might as well go with the better style engine. As far a putting a diesel in the M, you probably wouldn"t want to put a 6 cylinder diesel in it if you plan on running it very hard. Rear ends not near as strong as the 560.

Example, the IH 806.
biggest engine you could get was a 361. same family as the 407,,, they put the C series blocks in the 806, and the 361 was in the 806,, so it would be easiest to use a 361-407 and not have to alter much on either the M or the 560. some go over that and go with the 414-436-466 family,,, you have to do some work, but they will fit,,,
the 560 and the M have the exact same engine back plate bellhousing bolt pattern,,, only difference between the two are the bolt holes that bolt the plate to the block,,, clutch and flywheel,,,, if a 361 or a 407 was used,, use the flywheel from the 806 and like size tractors,,, may have to adapt the clutch disk splines up to match the rear end input shaft,,, but thats no big deal. Should be a matter of the tooth count on the starter ring,,, but Im sure it can be fixed up to work. ChadS ChadS3@hotmail.com
