Getting started in pulling

Morning folks,

I"m a regular to this site, usually on the MF page and general discussion. After going to a pull in Ocala Fl recently, I think the bug has bit me. How would one get started? I need some resources on what the different classes are, rules, regs and etc. I"m getting a new tractor for the majority of my farm work and retiring a MF175. Can I pull with this machine to get started? I"ve got a nice well equipped shop and a willingness to learn. I"d appreciate a point in the right direction.

Thanks,

I don't want to discourage you, but your MF 175 is probaly too new. Most antique pulling clubs say 1959 or older. Some allow newer tractors but most don't. Check the rules where you plan to pull to make sure. It would be a real bummer to spend time and money on your 175 and not be able to pull it. Hope this helps.

This year will only be my third in pulling, so I don't know much, but in general, it seems that starting out in antique is the cheapest and easiest way to get some experience and have fun. Even a $1000 tractor can teach you a lot, and see what direction you want to go from there. Most importantly, have fun, and ignore the weenies that take it too seriously. The club I pull with are a great bunch of guys (and gals), the mood is relaxed, and it keeps me coming back. Be careful, though- it's addictive.

Post your location and hopefully someone from your area will reply with the local clubs in that area. Then, like the others said, look thru the rules and make your tractor legal for the class you want. And have fun with it.

Thats right. It is suposed to be fun. Do check out local clubs as they have diffrent rules. We have a ton of rules like tire size, age of tractor, all hitch specs and so on. Just find on that will accept a tractor like yours. Sit back and watch what other guys do. Ask questions and then try to figure out which guys wanna help and which guys keep all their secrets.

Locate a club you will pull with and see what the rules are. Don't try to build a world beater out of the box, just get out and have a ball, watch what the others do and learn. Above all HAVE FUN. Thats what this hobby is all about! Great folks all over and some very nice machinery.
