The club that we pull in, with its history as of lately, has established what happens when too many enhanced tractors wanna drop into the stock classes. End results are now we have 500 ci MM"s Dont know how big of IH"s, and dont know how many more are hiding or waiting to make the drop,,,, but basicly, a free for all ci HP war in low gear "Stock class".

They played with rules on hitches, weights, engines, tried and tested,, and this is the end result. The hitch specs arent bad,,, and I can say that the hook point location, will help keep the playing field a little more level,,, 18 high, and 28 inches from the center of the rear axle, but use a stock support, and support must be kept as level to the ground as possible. Seems to work pretty well for most makes and models Ive seen run, usually its a different winner every week. They also wont let the front end come up off the ground no more than 20 inches, and limit the tire size to 15.5X 38 no rim wider than 14. Not bad chassis specs for a stock type class.

10 years ago, eveyrbody in farm stock was pretty much stock,, sure the overbore kits were there, but, they were a factory replacement overbore kit that anybody could buy at any parts dealer. The hook numbers were huge, and had alot of good pulls. Super turn outs every week. A really great class,,, or it WAS,,,

Meanwhile,, in the mod classes,, the power wars were ON!! bigger, badder, cant stop em, and each year, and soon, NEW tractors were built, and the old ones they pulled now are getting their butts handed to em, by their own owners. So, now we have the older big engined tractors that are out dated by new technology. What to do with em?? What will ever come of those lost forgotten former winners??? Well, Ill tell ya,,,,

The owners of the old mods,, well, I guess they whined long enough to each other and made,,, or should I say TOOK??,, OK, made,, it sounds better,, made their own classes,, by changing the farm stock rules to allow them mods to run with the guys that had the stock cranks in thier farm tractor, their parade tractor, their stock class pullers. The stockers attendance dropped like flies over time,,, but more and more big one kept showing up and bonds were made and deals were shady, and nobody asked anybody really, they had their batle plan made out, and no matter what, the old mods,, got their way.

A few years ago, we tried that strokers in farm stock thing,,, I had blasted all of board memebers about what or why it happened, I made lots of em mad. People I had pulled with for over a decade.

They call me a cheater. Last year at a few pulls, I had some really good runs with my M, Won a few classes, paid real good attention, had the tractor dialed in, we came to pull. Well, one particular day, I made the winning hook in the one class, and after I unhooked from the sled, and headed up to the scales, I heard CHAD YOU CHEATED! YOU GOT A LIMITED SLIP IN THAT M!!!! And I looked back and people were staring, and pointing,, people running up to get ready to protest,, they wanted my A$$!!!

The voices were shreiking inside my head!!!
They say CHADS!! A cheater?? Oh heck NO! HE did not say that!!

I weighed, got my comfired lead results and went right back over to the area of where the comment was shouted. Dad was like HEY! Where ya going?? I said Come here,, I said, DAD, somebody is yellin we got a limited slip in this ol green M,,, they callin us a cheater. He laughed,

I locked up my left brake, and spun the M in a circle, then, I locked my right brake, and spun it around in a circle going the other direction. The braked wheel never spun. I hollared, get the jack! Jack up the tractor, spin the wheels! Nobody took me up on it. the tractor was on the scale, and nobody even wanted look even check it out. Point is,,, the stroker tractors got their you know whats handed to them, and thats what we had to face in front of a crowd,, for doing a job well done. Guess I am not a good ol boy!!!! Not in that circle,,, and ya all know which one that is,,, But hey,, its ok gents,,, you keep on making the rules for yourselves, and your Mafia, When the smoke clears,,, your not gonna find a stroker, your not gonna find a limited slip in any machine I drive and whip your strokers back to the foundries they came from. But wait,,,, there is more.

One old mod in particular that dropped back,, a beautiful, strong 47 U,, its not one with the double jugs, it has the one piece blocks. Everybody knows what it has if they been around long enough to see it run. Before the classes changed,, we ALL would pull in one class, in the beginning it was all sorted by year, then came wight classes, and we had fun. Sure there was hurt prides, sure there was heated discussions, but we had fun, and we pulled together.

The U dropped back to farm stock,, and I have to say,, its a dirty shame. To see such a tractor with such a history in the past in cases of whoopa$$ in div 3,,, and be put back into a first gear class,,,, In the old days we had the two H"s, a big JD G of Meck"s, jake"s UB, Carls, 400, list and lists, and that class, that particular class was fun. With my H comming back, and everybody going distance, how bout this??? why not try,, I mean really try,,, to take my money with that 47 U in the 45-55 mod percentage class against my H in the mods,, just like the old days!!!!???

All ya gotta do is up the weight class back to 5500, and bring it on. Keep your 5000 distance.

Put back on the cuts, the weight bars, the hitch, put back on the Betty Boop sticker, and come see if you can beat my lawn mower. Or is that U a "BARN TRACTOR"??? Im callin out the 47 U that 10 years ago, was the toughest, or one of the toughest 3.5 MPH puller in the state,, in its day,,,,, your competiton awaits you if you think you can still win on that U in mods. I think I can win on my H.

The great debate on stock pulling and how to keep it there and keep it that way,,,, is to really sit down with puller with years of experience,,, not a buch of yes man no man, but ones who have been there, done that, and design a rule book that is fair for everybody. Something that everybody has to do to make the class,,, and its usually hook point location modifcations and tires and rpms and factory stock blocks and heads, and keep the weights on the tires only,,,,, ,,,, no suitcase weights,,,,,

Fellas, 10 years ago, we had 5 amazing season when attendance was concerned in the farm classes,, the numbers are dropping, this is happening in our club when the mods dropped back into farm stock. Maybe, I can coax one old mod to be a big dog again in a class the owner built it for in the first place,,,, one, is a start,,,

if ya guys do, ya do, and ya dont ya dont, but I would never,,, EEEEVVVVVEEEERRR Put My H, back in farm stock,,, its not where it belongs, it was built to beat your U.

BUD BARENIE,,,, please pass this along to the owners of that 47 U. and to all others,,,,

think long and hard on what, and where you ant that stock class to go,,,,, stockers have a place,,, and each and every one can win on the up and up. This is what we face now,,, thats what happens, and this is what we have to deal with since the mods came to farm stock town. opened up pandoras box and what happens when that box it opened???? its bad right??? I have been reading and I am going to have to side with Chad ( and I don't him at all) on this one. "Stock" is "stock", I have seen the numbers knock off here too when it comes to the fram guys wanting to pull. I have seen that 12,13,14,15 yr old boy who feels really down when he pulls his daddys farm stock tractor and ends up last place each time. What is he supposed to do? He wants to do it for fun, be a big guy and play like his daddy once did, pull with his dad. The guys that jump into the farm stock class can not compete with the hot stock guys or mods so they have to show their colors in the stock classes. The question is why? Why do you have to cheet to show who you are? Yes, it is cheeting when you have to change a "Stock" tractor to win.

I have pulled against Dave Thompson sr Dave Thompson jr Mike Thompson and Daves Grandson Keith all at the same pull. That family has a class act. They win and compete against each other harder than anyone else. I have noticed that one of them has posted his phone number and name. That family helps each other and helps others. If you are knocking them you have problems. Give them a call I am sure they can settle it. A club puller who likes the thompson family.

A class act indeed. We always had fun, and we look forward to pulling with them. In the old days, its was Mikes A, Dave Sr on his 47 U, and those two would switch back n forth with the lead so many times in one class it was entertaining to see which one would edge out who!! Good to see families come together and play with old tractors. they need a group name,,, HAHAHA!!! Dave SR knows what Im talkin about,,, LMAO!! we are of the east ST RD 19 cheater society, then there is Westville Mafia,, then,, Nappannee old schoolers. All us know what party they belong to,,, its an inside joke,,, Ive had fun with it so far,,,, ChadS

No, not knocking anyone here and am not even from your area. I was just sorta of agreeing with the term "stock". I have pulled in many locations and in this area the term stock has been highly stretched....How much do you have to do to make your tractor "stock" and that should be nothing...When a pull is put on and it is called a stock class it means just that. The tractor just as it came from the factory with no modifications at all. If they want to modify their tractors then jump to another class and let the stock classes have their fun too.

I would have to agree with you Chad. This is the very reason I sold my tractors and dont give a crap about antique pulling anymore. Whats the use for someone to buy an original tractor, take it to a pull and know that they never have a chance of winning. I could spend a couple thousand dollars on better things!!!

JR, When did I see Dave drive that 47,,, every weekend for 9 years! What would be funny,,, is that 47 waxing that M of yours. I know it can do it, Ive seen it against worse and come out on top. The ol governor would get to a surge and when it did, hooked up and gone. The 37 A was the same way. Be happy the M isnt against either one. Ask the man himself about that one,,,,

Bring that M down into the percentage classes. More the better.
Keith,, he is doing fine, needs to work on the landing at the end,,, you do too!! HAHA!! Let that front end down to the ground easy!!!!
the 47 U, is a good farm stocker,,, but it was a great Modifed puller! if the percentage class was still 5500, it would do very well. He knows it. We want to see it whooping on mods again! Can it beat the H??? I belive I give it a run for its money. Youll see how it likes M's,, So, come on! bring the 47 and the Ms and pull.
we got like 6 years worth of that 47 pulling if you ever want copies.
It was fun back then,,,,, will you consider bringing the 47 U back to run in the mods,,, against your M?s and my H?? Ill run with ya in 5000. We have no problem with a last minute rule change on putting the class back up to 5500 or what ever you want.
Shoot we pull against 77's with 88 engines,,,,, the M might be the only legal puller in the class!!!!! ! Up for it? If not,,,, I understand,,, that H is mean!! ChadS ChadS3@hotmail.com

JR, rules under 6000 are 15.5X38 according to the rules I got. Besides that U wont get that light! Rules man!! Its why they are wrote down! With 18.4X 38's on my H,, I dont think my front tires would be touching ground!!!! Will they? never seen a H with 18.4s on it,,

How about, all season long, points championship winner, and a more "friendly" wager. I wont put my tractor up, but, I have "things" to gamble with too. Im sure I could peak your curiosity for the prize for points winner. Ill put up. I dont want your tractor! Its store bought! Damn!

Why do the MM's get the bad rap? I personally know a few JD g's that are double in cubic inch and spent a few bucks. But if you are not pulling Red or Green you must be a cheater. If those people would pull in the right class alot of MM's would be in the right class.by the way what makes the differance if you do a little or alot to the motor you should still be in the hot classes. So you should do alot right off the bat.

MMr47,,, hang on,, I challenged the MM,,, but your right,, there are more than one color doing it. Ollies, JD's IH's AC's MM's, you name it somebody has modified it. The reason I am focused on a MM,,, is because, this MM tractor is an all time great in my book. The owner made it work, made it a winner in the mod classes. He was the man to beat. I cant see why a puller with the record this one has,,, be reduced to picking on farm stockers,,,,, , Id think he would want to keep the hard work up with that one,,,, No way am I callin him a loser or a quitter,, no,,,, I like the guy, and I want to see that MM do well in the classes he built it for. Classes that still exist that that machine can be competitive in! I cant tell him what to do, but I hope he understands how we feel. Not out to slander,,,, Im out to have fun, and maybe this will appeal to his competitve nature,,,, and others too!! I miss seeing that ol MM and that H go round and round. It was fun!! There are still machines out there in the classes it ran,,,, that still want to pull with em,,,, and they were tough, and I want a crack at em. if they do, they do, if not they dont. at least, we asked em to play.

Tractor pulling, since it's beginning has always been comprised of TWO groups, "CHEATER" and "LOSERS". Save your time and breath Chads, it will never ever change. Pick your class, either spend the money and time and be a "CHEATER" or go enjoy the nice day, have some fun and hang out with the "LOSER" One lesson most learn early in life is that ANYTHING involving competetion with home made rules from within the competition is never never fair for all and is quarenteed to provide lots of conflict and dissention.Too challenge or change that long tradition would be likened to trying to make your goverment run the country the way you deem right, rather than their own way. Just aint gonna happen. Remember the old saying "IF YOU CANT BEAT EM, JOIN EM" It's probably your only option Dude!!!!!

As for me helping our club,,,,,
If 16 years of patronage, spending hard earned cash to support the group,,,,, we all did that,,,,isnt enough then I dont have enough money to play.
I walked up and down the tracks for 10 years being a flag man, hooking and unhooking tractors, working when I was assigned!!!! That's where this great sport got its start...now it's "life-or-death" to some folks. I've got some ideas on building an H myself, and it probably wouldn't be competitive in any "class" pull...but when I get it built, I'd like to pull it a few times anyway, just for FUN. Shame some folks seem to have something against "fun" these days.

Chad take your dyno to the next pull or surprise them with it and dyno the winner or the tractors in that class.

Have a netural party with who ever is running the dyno to make it fair.

The M&W P400 dyno can handle 125 hp on the 540 shaft . I have dynoed a stock tractor that took it to the limit and it was a 60 hp factory tractor.

There is no sence in starting fights with people on here, if there playing by the rules including your self . Pull the dyno out and shut them up , if people have nothing to hide this won't be a problem.

Call the people out in front of everyone prove what your saying. That will bring people back knowing your club is pulling the frauds out of the stock class.

Chad:

I agree 100%. Why take a 110 horse 4010 to a "farm stock" speed pull (with worthless speed limit) to run against a JD or 1066 IH that is ~ 500 horse?

Why take a stock 2 cylinder to run against a 88 oliver with a 310, a heavily modified cockshutt, or a G making 2 times the power it did from the factory. You have to give credit where credit is due to the guys modifying their tractors with the stock cubic inch making twice the power, but the boring/stroking or installing newer style larger cubic inch engines with 3 times the power is wrong. Then the first time you try this they kick you out or change the rules at the end of the season so they hurt you and benefit theirselves.

With gas prices and the price of antique tractors, nobody will be travelling to pull so there won"t be much competition to win $15 dollars or a $5 trophy for the cheaters.

You mention a 110 horse 4010 going to a farmstock pull. If you have a 4010 cranking 110 hp, that"s nowhere near farmstock or rebuild spec"s!

Why dont you stop your whining and prove it on the track, o wait you will have to go home every night after the pull and put some baby powder on your A$$, if you dont like the rules then put them tractors in the barn or mow the lawn with them if they can handle that!

Club Puller,,

If you are one of them there class droppers,,, why not upgrade back up to where ya belong and try to take the money? Im going back to what, and where Im supposed to be. IN THE MODS!!! Not so long ago, when this Little idy bitty H came out, and we got it working,,,, those guys boycotted that tractor, when it was on the up and up the whole time, just cause if I would have won one more time in the 55-65, I would have taken the points lead away from the elders. Couldnt have that happen now could I?? So we still ran, exhibition,, and still outpulled, and would have won the class and taken the dearly lead away and held it there,, with a little iddy bitty farmall H!! Just rememeber,,, Im a cheater,,,, branded and classified,,, and rules will be bent,, not broken, but when Im done,, they will look like a train hit em. you tell that 47 U to come on down!!! any others too!! you win, Ill submit and we all go to distance,,, no more percentage,,, I win, well,, I have a list of demands!! HAHAHA!!! Deaf ears dont listen, but maybe when I take the prize money home,, I hope I leave ya enough to go to Mc Donalds. in 2005 or 06,, the strokers ran,, and sure wasnt the strokers that won the points now was it?? NOPE, it was my DAD's SM,, his burned up fire ridden, farm stock, stock everything Super M farmall. Now the little brother H wants to have its fun,,,,, but its not stock!!! So its back to the mods! save one, lose 10,,,,, let the botcotting BEGIN!!!!

Hence why attendance is down. Combine pricks that hold no bars when it comes to pulling with high fuel prices and the sport will pretty much die out like it has before.

Hey ChadS isn't nice to see the real cheaters get mad when someone like you gets to make a few very good pulls . Let them cry and go out and spend a few more grand . They will never know the joy of just having fun.

We have a stock class here with some MM with giant motors that win most of the time.

I see your point that is why i am for the use of the dyno as long as the people running it know how to do it correct.

This debate is over when there is a dyno for stock class winners.

Dyno rule was never an option when it came time to vote. Nothing was an option to start! they had their motives, and they carried out the plan. Free for them, nothing for the rest.

hey chads...what does it matter how much power it has if its a low gear class...a speed limit is the fairest way ever to run a pull and get EVERYONE involved.....there is a club in my area that lets you blow the horn all the way to a 60 ft. cone..and no more blows after the cone. that seems to be the fairest way at a 2.5 or 3mph speed limit...stock late JD a's can compete with 200 hp olivers....and the low gear rule screws late A"s and cocksutt/co-ops with the slow low....and maybe even olivers..don't know what there low is like..but i know some of the rules suck. i know if ya have 500 hp in a 2.5 mph class, you will still compete with a 50 hp A. so there's my 2 cents..

To some, it matters alot. to most, the real tricks are never seen. Tradition got thrown out the window by cash. sold their very tractors souls down the river,,, its like being invaded, they made rules against me, and did the exact same thing and said its OK!!!! A modified is a modified. Quacks like a Duck, looks like a duck, probably smells like a duck,,, it's a duck.

A 50 hp A, is a nice tractor,,, and your right, 2.5 mph would be good, slow em down a little,,, but thats not the case here,, 3 mph, special classes and rules were made for these tractors, and make em feel right a home, and then the same ones make rules against the competition to make it that much worse to compete against exactly whatthey wanted, they got, and are holding all the cards. basicly saying,,, the past dont speak for itself,, we dont care. Tradition and pride means nothing, as long as they win, and at any cost, its OK. Nobody knows enough bout anything to know the difference and they know it, its OK to dominate, but not ok for the guys that get took,, to fight back and push em back and stand the ground. take all ya can! Give nothing back! Bloody Pirates!

I admire your grit , Chad. Unfortunately the rest of them just can't seem to see the forest for the trees. The good of the sport is way more important than the good of the individual. At least someone is willing to rise above the individual and speak for the sport for once. Drag racing used to have the same "sandbagging" problems. They solved it for the good of the sport. You run faster than your dial in and YOU LOSE. Use a 200' track and a sled that will stop the best in that weight class by 200'. Everyone will "predict" how far they will pull and they will pull off in pairs determined by a blind draw and set up on a step ladder elimination board. The tractor with the shorter prediction gets the difference added to his distance. Whoever goes further than his prediction looses. The one who comes closest to his prediction without going over wins. If they both go over the one over the least wins. One practice pull per wt. class per tractor ,(you can measure this one). Start line changes an undisclosed amount after practice ends. One pull per wt. class. Win , you advance. Lose you wait til the next class. No coaches , markers or any other aids along the track. Start line will be stagered an undisclosed amount between rounds. Run what ya brung , everybody against anybody. Advantage goes to best driver and most consistant tractor..AS IT SHOULD!!!! It would be well worth a try for any of you organizations out there. You might well be the first to draw record attendance of both participants AND spectators alike!

That can really work especially if percentage was used instead of times. Go over the dial in percentage and you lose, closest to it wins! If ever that comes around, sign me up! Id try it out!

Does anyone know if something like this has been done successfully? It is a neat idea, but right now with the traditional setup just about anyone off the street could figure it out without a big deal. That is a pretty big change.
