Witnessed what might be considered a TRUE stock/antique tractor pull over the weekend. 1959 and earlier, with tractors ranging from JD A, B, M, MT, 720, 820, 830; Ford 9N; Case VC; Allis B, C, WD; Farmall/IH 560, 460, 130, A, H, M, MTA (gas & dsl); MinMo G; Oliver 66, Super 99; Coop; Cockshutt - only Make missing was Massey. Dual sleds: 2000 lbs - 5000 lbs on smaller sled with MAX 3.5 mph (ANY gear); 6000 - 12000 lbs on larger sled with MAX 4.0 mph (ANY gear).
If horn blew you had to slow down, 2nd horn blown stopped the pull and distance measured at that point.
STOCK (wheel) weights (no hanging/suitcase weights). OE manufactured Frame weights allowed. Tires increased only 2 sizes above OE standard (no cut, radial, rice or cane tires).
TA or select-o-speed shifts allowed and used as needed. No manual shifts allowed during pull.
Wheelie bars recommended but not required - pull stopped if bottom of front tires raised above center of rear axle.
VAST majority of tractors are working tractors, some had been racking hay earlier in the day on Saturday. Approx 178 hooks in 4 1/2 hours. 24 tractors in 7,000 lb class.
It wasn't about who went the fastest - many winners were the smaller, slower tractors with drivers knowing what to do when. GOOD time had by all - HAVING FUN tractor pulling.
