770 Carb Question

Just rebuilt a TSX755 on a 770 Oliver. Ignition system, and fuel system new and clean. The problem is when I open the throttle up quickly, the engine stumbles and dies. It doesn't seem to respond to adjustments made to the load screw or the idle except for when they are completely bottomed out. The problem exists hot or cold. Could my float/fuel level be too low?? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sounds like carburetor not adjusted? How are the intake gaskets?

No smoke, just dies. If your quick enough to grab the choke yu can recover.

What is the plug gap set at? Had a Super 77 in the shop for a tune earlier this year, had the same problems,, went from .040 down to .030 and it did seem to help. You must be able to run the engine at full throttle, and then back out the main load adjustment screw and make it smoke/run rich. Pull out the spark plugs and see if they are a light color,, if so, then you can stand to increase you main jet size, a little at a time, to see if any changes help. Check for vacuum leaks, check the distributor for any signs of wear, rocker arm tips worn, and make sure you have a good spark plug and a good fuel. Too much octane in fuel will make it stutter, too much plug gap will cause a stutter, not enough fuel thru the metering circuits )main jet and metering nozzle) creating a rich idle and a lean high rpm condition. I dont know of any tractor engine that has been rebuilt, that you did not have to rejet the carb on. Hope this helps,, ChadS
