I have a MTD that was sitting for about 8 months. It worked great last time I used it. I fired it up today and it moves real slow, it has the 7 speed shift. It will only move in 4th and that is the only gear and it moves real slow. I replaced the drive belt, cleaned brake system, I inspected linkage and everything looks like it functioning. Any other suggestions before I take it in???

It sounds like your variable speed pulley isn't working correctly. Try putting it in high gear and once it's moving, hook your toe under the pedal and pull it back. If it speeds up then, that's the problem. Shut everything off and put it in park. The variable speed is the pulley between the engine and transmission. The pulley has 2 belts on it. The part that separates the belts is made to move up and down the shaft. Put a little high temp grease on the shaft. Use very little, and wipe off any that gets on the surfaces that are contacted by the belt.
Hope this helps.
