3020 John Deere Gas tractor 1964 year: The lever that controls the three point hitch is very hard to move down and up and also I am not able to move the lever all the way down to the botton of the slot. I really would love if somebody would inform me as to how I can lossen this lever up.

Thank You

Cable between the dash and the operating lever is 39 years old. Rusty and full of gunk! Remove it, chuck it in a drill, run it with WD40 (pulling it in and out). It it does not stay free, replace it.

To JMS/MN

Thank you for the assistance on the 1964 3020 John Deere "lever that controls the three point hitch". Would you be so kind as to give me some idea how to remove cable from the dash to the operating lever?

Will be waiting

Remove the small sheet metal cowl around the dash- the part with the handholds on. Remove the pin from the yoke on the forward portion of the three-point hitch lever. There should be a retaining clamp holding the upper end of the flexible casing of the cable that goes to the rockshaft. At the opposite end of that cable, on the rockshaft housing (right side, under the seat) there should be another clamp, and I believe the cable terminates in an 'L' shape, with two 'E' clips holding it into the rockshaft control lever. Also helps to remove the cover junder the steering wheel (held on with one bolt) to gain access under the dash, to remove the cable. After getting the cable out, remove the yoke on the upper end, chuck that end in an electric drill and soak the cable with WD40 or similar fluid. Run the drill, pulling the chucked end in and out to loosen the cable. If it comes free enough to move it easily by hand, soak the cable with light oil and reinstall it. If it does not travel full stroke, replace the cable with a new one.
