Compression test- with a bit of oil in cylinder on 8n- shows 60, 80, 50,55 psi- Will it start and run at this low? Tractor became hard starting, put in new igntion parts.
Think she will run? Or is it to late and needs a rebuild?

Hey Bryan, Do your self a favor, go on and have it re-built yourself if you are mechanically inclined or find somwe one close to you over the net and insist on helping, (learning) I had my 8N for 2 years and thought it was the greatest and then someone suggested a rebuild, wow what a difference!!!! I now have regular scheduled maintenence that I do myself and I've now enjoyed over 5 years of trouble free fun, trust me it was worth it!!!! and you will feel the same!!!

My 9N ran with 30's for compression. Turned out to be the valves so no oil burning. The N engine is amazing and will definitly run with those numbers but find out why it is so low. If it is the rings, then it will burn oil, if it is the valves it will not. If it is the head gasket, then check the radiator for bubbles and the oil for foam. Incidently, the N is supposed to have 90 psi minimum if perfect.

I had an old Ford car that had compressions like that with 118k miles on it. It ran ok and burned a bit of oil but not a lot. However, those were dry compression figures I had. If you need oil to get that I'd expect it might stuggle.

Why don't you try to start it? Compression on 3 cylinders is way low -- will probably use a lot of oil and not have much power.
