I just purchased a late 60's, Case 680, which as you may have guessed, is difficult to start on these cold days in New England. The person I purchased it from recommended a few squirts of "Starter Fluid" in the intake. Is this the "standard" solution for these older diesels or what are some of my other options. At this time the machine is on a vacant lot with no electricity so a block/oil heater is not an option. Thanks

I'm no expert in this but I've heard that if the tractor has glow plugs then the use of starting fluid is not recommended because the hot glow plugs will ignite the fluid at the wrong time. The results can be etc. a broken cylinder head.
