My favorite tractor is our diesel John Deere 4010. I recently had her in the shop to fix her PTO, but on the way out of the shop, her charging system went. I had shut off the key, and wires started smoking. Two wires running between the voltage regulator and starter were fried, as was the voltage regulator. I was told that something had gone out in the generator. I replaced the wires, regulator, and generator, but the tractor still doesn't charge. Nobody that I know has been able to help me, because they aren't familar with generators. Maybe one of you can? I did polarize it by touching the battery and generator connections on the voltage regulator.

You have to change the starter and then do you put something like a delco remy alternator on it and what do you do with all the wires on the generator and the regulator.
Thanks chris
