The weather was supposed to be excellent for 5 days straight. The first two have turned out to be cloudy and overcast. I hope the sun comes today or my first cut is done for. Photo from last night, nearly done first cut. I work full time so mowing happens into the night.

we do a lot of our mowing in the evening too. Next morning's first rays of sun start drying it. sugar and energy are highest at day's end and its when I have the most time. I make it a point to quit by ten so as not to disturb neighbors. So far this year I've mowed only about three acres, a dry poor growing piece because the forecast was marginal. I got it dried down in two and a half days. I'm probably the only one within thirty miles of here in southern NH who has put up any dry hay yet. and still no forecast!

This is what we grow out here in Oregon for hay. Tall Fescue. You can't see it in the pic but it's touching the floor and I'm 6 ft. tall. Please notice how well dresses I am, Mother said alway wear your best stuff when getting a picture taken.

What brand mower is that. As I said early we did a number on our MF 725 and the dealer tells me that the parts are not available BUMMER. So my buddy says Hey! the Capital Press ( a local farm paper) is online now. went there and looks though the classified for a small 7 ft. mower (needed cause some people don't believe in large gates) found a JD not far from here but it was sold. I looked at the add right under it and Viola! a MF 725 and its right next door, well just about a mile up the hill from here. Bought it for $1100 now we got lots of spare parts. If one it going to use old equipment he should have at least one but better two parts vehicles to keep your stuff on the road.

That is a NH 489 (9 ft) picked up as high as it will go. The hay is only up to my thigh, just above my knee in poor spots.

There should be about 70 bales per acre (45 lb small squares) this field needs fertilizer and lime, should be producing about 100 bales per acre. The evergreens make some acid runoff into the field from the needles on the forest floor.

I will only get one more cut of about 30-50 bales per acre this year.
