my international 574 independent brakes have

failed. i'm not to sure what the trouble is.

firstly I propose to check the two master

cylinders ( if I can get them off) I was

able to bleed them , but now they wont bleed! no oil will pump out. the oil level , indicates full I only hope the trouble is not in the gear box ( back axle)

Charlie, did you ever figure out the correct proceedure of bleeding your brakes on the 574? Hay season is here and our brakes are gone again. This is a 2-3 times a year headache. Can you help us?
Regards, Gary

Hi,
well, what do you need ?
I had two 574 in the past . A good 1971-574 and a very very bad 1976-574. They were as similar as a Focus and a Pinto. Could not recommend a 574 if you have to work in "soft ground" because the frond end is too heavy or switch to 4WD. Moreover, many if not all(?) 574 have row crop type front axle. Definitely the 684 Utility front axle is a better choice if you are going to use a front loader.
well, what do you need to know ?
regards, Dave

Dave, I have owned a 574 for 29 years and have been wonderfully pleased. In my area the rowcrop axles(high clearance) were probably less than 1 in ten. The 574s did have a swept back axle for a shorter turning radius where later models had a straight axle (swept back may still have been an option). For whatever pitfalls some may have found in soft ground they excelled in comfort and handling elsewhere.

Hi ... 29 years,

Is your 574 front end like the 684 Utility ?
Personnally, all 574/674 I have seen were row crop type front axle. Definitely the utility type like those I have seen later on 684, 784 and the one you own are superiors. I guess you have a 1971 or 1972 model, I understand why you are happy with it and I bet your 574 is equiped with a Y axle, the fast one. On my farm, a 4WD is a must and not a nice to have. A 239 CID engine /wet sleeve weighs around 905 lbs, this is 400 lbs more than a 236 CID Perkins dry sleeve. This is why I recommended to avoid 2 WD heavy front end / short turning radius tractor in "soft ground" and it applies to any brand/model that corresponds to that description.
Regards, Dave
