I am wondering why my tractor will not shut off by the throttle.

The throttle will only shut the tractor engine off if the idle stop screw is set real low so the RPM will make the magneto stop firing. The proper method is to shut off the fuel from the fuel tank and let the float bowl drain. I put a cut off switch on the magneto to short the contacts and it stopped right then. Then, after the mag was bad, I replaced the coil in the mag with an external 6 volt coil and have a battery ignition. Now it starts almost instantly.

Unless I'm mistaken, all of the JD All Fuel tractors were supposed to be shut off by turning the fuel selector to the off position, then letting it run the fuel out of the carb. That's the way I stop mine.

Thank you for your reply!
I did not know that since the other two cylinder (older) gas tractors shut off by the throttle.
I appreciate your help.

Mike
