My tractor has select-a-shift transdraulic drive. While using it today it began to slip in forward gears. I immediately tried to back up, it jerked a few times, went a few feet back, then stopped. I immediately put it in forward gear, it went about 5 feet, and stopped. At this point I had neither forward nor reverse. When I tried to tow it found the rear wheels were locked up. All other hydraulic functions work, such as front loader, pto, rear lift, and power steering. Select shift mechanism seems to be working correctly. Must be something in the transmission function. Does anyone have any ideas?

Olan, Try posting the same info on the Ford discussion board. Tony Jacobs, is the one to ask fo. All is not lost, from past post they have a tranny lock release you need to actuate inorder to tow when dead. You may just need a minor adjustment to restore all back to normal. Search the archives. YES, You are the latest victim of the infamous Ford Slip-O-Matic tractor transmission. When they go, they really go. Check the fluid level and filter first, a regular change of fluid is the most important maintenace you can give that transmission to make it live a long life. The last owners may have never changed it at all.
