I've owned an IH rowcrop 574 gas with C200 engine and 2050 loader since 1987. Ran Prestone cleaner through the cooling system for recommended hours + and cleaned block. Changed oil and used Pennzoil 30 as recommended by IH dealer. Does not overheat literally. Can mow with sickle bar or plow all day and I stay at 180-190 degrees. Use a pto implement like the cut-ditioner or MF225 baler and it goes right to 210-220 degrees.Has been to top of temp gauge once - my fault in judgement. That was the only time it boiled. Is this normal for this engine and is there anything I missed or can do to run cooler. It has thrown a lot of heat since I bought it.

It may already been done, but if not is the radiator fins full of seed and chaff? this will make one run hot with a good load on it

it sounds like this has nothing to do with the pto making it run hot, isnt your sicklebar pto driven? if something were binding or whatever ya would notice it then too, i think ya just gota look at the engine cooling system and get the pto idea outa your head.

I agree it is not a PTO issue unless you are overworking the tractor. What you seem have is a cooling system that will not handle a full workload on the engine for whatever reason. Radiator flow reduced ( airflow or coolant ), Thermostat not working properly, rust or other buildup in block, Valves need adjusting, lean fuel mixture, loose fan belt on water pump, etc.

You have a 2050 loader? Those big side channels will sure run the heat back on you won't they ?
On the over heat, is the timing and valve adjustment good and could it be running too lean. All I can think of on the overheat unless the Radiator his mineral buildup in it. With the bottom hose off and pouring water in the top, do you get a good flow thru ?

It takes a lot more HP to run some of those implements so it makes sense that it would get hotter. A bushhog will usually really heat up a tractor
