I have a 4000 ford tractor with a 3 cyl. gas engine 4.2 bore/4.2 stroke. I can't find a complete engine rebuild kit to fit this odd 4.2 bore/4.2 stroke. Does anyone know why I have this odd bore/stroke and where I can find a kit.

I thought a 4.2 x4.2 was a 4110 engine.

A couple things come to mind with this situation. First, if you buy the parts from NewHolland, then each part is available separate. There is no kit, as such. Second, the 4.2 x 4.2 175 cid engine was not fitted to the 4000, that I am aware. The 4000 only came equipped with a 201 cid (4.4 x 4.4) The 175 was fitted to the 3610, and I am fairly sure the 3600 as well. So be sure that it is a 175. Another possibility is that the engine has been rebuilt previously, and required sleeves. Sometimes a straight sleeve was set in a 4.4 in bore, and made it a 4.2 in bore. So, to be very sure of what you have, check the model, unit code on the right front ear of the block, the bore, the stroke, the block, the rods, etc. Ford did sleve some blocks at factory, but I am not aware that a lesser displacement would be fitted in a given model. The block would simply be used on another model which used the lesser bore. Mabey somebody has buggered with this already? Hope this answers more questions that is raises...

I had all kinds of trouble finding pistons and
rings for my 4000 Gas tractor. I finally found
them at this place: 800-2316876, Alexander
Tractor, Winnsboro, TX

If I had some more information I should be able to help you find a kit.
