I have around 20 various tractors. Some run and, earn there keep. Some are just like our Donkey, and just do nothing, but make noise every once and a while. There are also the ones that will never be warmed by the fuel they once used.I now have a chance to get another good deal on a Massy. with a 3 cyl Perkins with a rod out, for 550. Which will run again, and be used in my mowing business. I do all my own work so I will only have parts to pay for. Does the price sound ok or should I pass on this one? Stan

I have three and I am always looking. I was into old cars before that. We have purchased 60a in Maine so I have an excuse, although I have been noticing lately my wife has been looking a little strange at me. I really noticed it the other day when I brought home a AC-b which was all there and really not bad, it just had a lot of rust on it. But when I told her I thought we needed to build a barn on our new property to house the tractors*** I'll save that story for another time. If it were me I would go for it! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

There is no answer to this question except: "YOU HAVE ENOUGH TRACTORS WHEN YOUR WIFE GETS UPSET ENOUGH TO LEAVE YOU AND LIVE WITH HER MOTHER". Only then have you reached the optimum number !!!

That is the exact time to go buy 1 more (so she will stay gone :-)

Actually for me it was cows, not tractors.

I have around 40-50 tractors. I don't have enough time to devote to them. I have always said that 5 tractors is all a good collector needs to have and can keep up with(maintenance). Even with these, I can't let a good deal pass by. If you are careful how you buy, I don't think you will lose much money(probably gain) in the long run. Not many hobbies like that!

Stan: I think you have enough tractors now, but how could you pass up a good deal? I've made several purchases that I wish I had passed on.

My yard might look like yours, over thirty tractors in variuos stages of life. I'm currently planning on selling a lot of projects so I have time to enjoy a few that I want to keep.

If going to tractor shows and visiting friends is important I think a guy should try to keep just a couple of good daily user's. You never want to get so many projects going that it complicates things.

Good Luck.

Better buy that one, Put 600 - 1200 in it and it will be worth 3 - 4K. I only have five right now.
My wife lets me buy any tractor that I want and guns, tools etc. I guess I am lucky that way.

but you've got to remember to apply the "Wife's Opinion to Reality Conversion Factor". That varies a bit from wife to wife, but typically a multiplier of 10 is about right...

Is the Perkins engine the D3-152? A MF 135? Price seems good. Spend $1000 in parts and have a $3500 tractor. Good luck Ray

Actually Ray it is a MF 231. Tractor looks a little larger than a MF 135, but I think the engine is the same size. Stan
